On 25th April, 1915, the 1st Cornwall Light Infantry battalion of 14th Brigade, 5th Division moved into the front line near Vierstraat in the Ypres salient. Thomas Brown was killed here on the following day, 26th April, when two of the trenches held by the battalion were heavily shelled and the parapets knocked down in several places. At night the enemy brought field guns to within 2000 metres and continued the shelling throughout the night. |
